Serian’s treehouse, ‘The Nest’ is perched 12 feet (3.7m) high in a lone Warburgia tree overlooking the Mara River. A mere meander away from Serian’s main camp, ‘The Original’, it’s both the perfect picnic spot after a trek through the bush and a romantic overnight bedroom for two. Listen to a roaring lion or harrumphing hippo as you fall asleep together al-fresco, under the stars.

Designed to be an escape from the rapid bustle of contemporary life, all of Serian’s accommodation options provide a chance to experience untamed Africa in a traditional way, yet with ample luxury on tap. ‘The Nest’ is part of the private, 75,000-acre Mara North Conservancy, a wilderness to which only 10 other camps have access to – so the feeling of having your own personal piece of Africa will be constant. No horrible convoys here!

‘The Original’ also overlooks the famous Mara River, with views extending on to the craggy Oloololo Escarpment. Featuring cream sofas and dark-wood furniture, its thatched main building houses the lounge and dining area, while daybeds dot river-facing terraces. Look out for gentle Wi-Fi, the resident (Labrador/Rhodesian Ridgeback) dog.
