Drawing from original African explorers’ designs, Mara Expedition Camp and its six tents evoke a bygone, romantic safari. Here, you will experience the best of both worlds: the intense action of the Maasai Mara ecosystem, plus the much more private, 70,000-acre Mara North Conservancy. The latter is shared by just 11 properties, so you’ll feel wonderfully secluded.

The camp is famous among Africaphiles for its resident leopards, who are frequently seen wandering nearby. It also offers guests access to two migrations – the famous annual Serengeti migration of wildebeest, zebra and antelope, and an additional green-season migration from Loita Plains where 50,000 more wildebeest and another 100,000 zebras vie for grazing rights.

With picnic breakfast (and often lunch, too) out, guests can enjoy full-day safaris across some of Africa’s richest game country, in a reserve renowned for its extraordinary predator density and frequent hunting spectacles..

Tucked away below a grove of African ebony trees, hidden from the lights and noise from neighbouring properties or any other signs of humanity, the camp’s simple main area is lit by lantern and candles at night – an irresistibly setting to return to, with the fire going and lions beginning to roar…

This camp’s ambience and vintage, ‘back to the-basics’ design will be a sure hit with private groups and safari enthusiasts.
