Ithumba Camp

With its cool stone floors and beautiful thatched roofs, Ithumba Camp makes an exclusive stylishly rustic hideaway, one designed for the intrepid traveller who relishes being off the beaten track. Go here to admire big skies during star-filled nights, and to gaze at a rich array of fascinating species by day in the surrounding wild landscape.

This eco-lodge consists of a comfortable mess-building – including an open-plan dining area and a lazy sitting room – plus four luxurious tented suites, all of it allowing guests to immerse themselves in the sounds of nature between excursions. Close by is the Ithumba Reintegration Unit for veteran elephants, which you’ll have special access to. It’s also possible to adopt an orphaned elephant, rhino or giraffe (for yourself or as a gift) – offering life and hope to an animal in need

Ithumba Camp is based at the foot of Ithumba Hill, with commanding views across Yatta Plateau, in the heart of Tsavo East National Park’s especially-remote northern sector. It directly contributes to the protection and conservation of this rare wilderness in numerous ways:

Supporting anti-poaching operations
Maintaining road network for security
Aerial surveillance
Maintaining fence lines
Maintaining the Ithumba airstrip
Ensuring water for wildlife (boreholes and waterholes)
Donating camping equipment and vehicles to Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS), and refurbishing vehicles
Maintaining freshwater plant for KWS personnel
Refurbishing KWS’s Ithumba headquarters
Providing bushfire mitigation support to KWS
Alleviating human-wildlife conflict
